
Making Bathroom Heaters That Won’t Blind You
When we design infrared heaters for bathrooms, we’re chasing a tricky balance. We want that instant, cozy warmth the second you step out of the shower, but we have to make sure the light isn’t blinding. It’s a real concern, especially when you think about kids or babies. Their eyes are way more sensitive, and the last thing you want in a home is a heater that causes retinal stress. The fight against the glare If you’ve ever seen a standard short-wave infrared lamp, you know they’re brutal. They have this harsh, blinding glare that makes you want to squint. To fix that, we play around with the quartz tubes. We add specific dopants and coatings that shift the heat toward the long-wave spectrum. Basically, we’re filtering out the high-energy visible light and UV stuff. You still get all the heat, but the brightness stays low. No more “staring effect” where you feel like you’re looking directly into a welding torch. The nuts and bolts We use high-purity quartz glass so the filament stays stable. We also carefully dial in the wattage. The goal is to get the most heat possible while keeping the color temperature low enough that it doesn’t glare. And because these things get hot, we use heat-resistant wiring. It’s a small detail, but it means the insulation won’t break down after a few months of heavy use. The honest trade-off Here’s the thing: when you filter out that visible light to protect your eyes, you lose a little bit of raw efficiency. A raw, uncoated halogen tube is technically “stronger.” But in a family bathroom? That’s a trade we’ll make every single time. Safety beats raw power. To make up for that slight dip in energy, we spent a lot of time on the reflector geometry. We shaped it to bounce the IR energy exactly where it needs to go—right onto you. So, even with the filters, you still feel that wave of warmth the moment you flip the switch.
